This is the way we’ve always done it. We hear it all the time. It’s often given as the most dangerous sentence in all the world.
What I find interesting is the number of things we all do because it’s the way we’ve always done it. Yet, we don’t consider it a problem.
Recently, for some reason, I’ve been seeing lots of cooking or household tips in my reels.
I’ve always boiled eggs a certain way. I’ve always shucked ears of corn the same way. I’ve always fried my eggs the same way. I’ve always poured liquids the same way. I’ve always folded clothes the same way. Jump-started my car the same way….
Whatever it is, it seems people are discovering little tricks that blow your mind (at least they blow my mind).
The real danger is that we assume the way we are doing things is the best (or the only) way. Or, maybe it’s that once we find A way, it becomes THE way and then we do things the same out of habit.
Then we realize old habits are hard to break, and making a change requires effort.
Some things are okay. I always sleep on my side. I always have coffee in the morning. I meet with my friends at least once per month. I call my mom or dad every day.
It’s not that all habits are bad, but all habits or methods require a periodic review.
At the very beginning is a starting point of 1. Question every “known truth” you believe. 2. Be open to learning new things. 3. Develop a “what if” mindset. 4. Be diligent about 1-3.
This is exactly what Demand Driven does.
It doesn’t add complexity.
It changes how your system responds.
Same data.
Different decisions.
Better outcomes.
